Concept & Research

The goal of this book was to leave children with the feeling of being empowered by reading each letter from this book. The focus for my letters was to encourage people to step up to be a leader and to embrace their differences because everyone is unique in their own way.

L is for Leadership

I wanted to express to children that it’s ok to be the one to step up and lead the way. This spread was more targeted towards introverted children that don’t feel comfortable leading the way. The toggle to the second spread also helps children understand that leaders don’t just lead, but they also great at supporting their teammates.

U is for Unique

In this spread, I wanted to communicate to children that we all are unique in different ways especially our appearance. People have different shapes and sizes and shouldn’t be ashamed of who they are even if they are different from others. The interactive component furthers this idea by turning each character into a different dimension when tapped.

Recap

The biggest thing I learned from this project was to plan for the unknowns of a project. Illustration and 3D is not my strong suit, so I should have increased the time I put into the project instead of thinking it would take the same amount of time as an app design. I also learned a lot about setting expectations in group settings and creating productive meetings.
