Summary and Process
Providing young students with a fun and engaging ABC game that can be an aid to teachers in the classroom. Our group created a card game called the “ABC’s of Symbiosis” where students are given a card and are asked to find their symbiotic match based on colors and QR like patterns.
I got to work in many different areas of design, both physical and digital. Cinema4D was used for each card to create the characters. Principle was used to combine and create each interaction for the cards and I got to use my wood shop to create a box for the cards out of leopard wood and bamboo.
U - Sea Urchin
The sea urchin was the first character where I got to explore using letters as the bases for each characters body. I wanted to anthropomorphize each creature by taking key features of them and applying it to the letter.
H - Human
The human illustration features a mini gym scene which gets used effectively in the iPad interaction. Where users can tap on different parts of the scene to view an animation and more information.
S - Sea Cucumber
I went a different route with the sea cucumber. Instead of making it cute and fun I wanted something a little more scary and ominous. So I thought placing it in an alien like environment would help create that feeling because se cucumbers are very alien looking.
Recap
This project taught me that any project can be infinitely long but you need to know when to stop and wrap it up. This project required modeling and texturing of all the scenes and characters, templates for each step to make sure everyone has the right assets for submission, copywriting for each card including the copy for the lesson plan cards and interactions. There was a lot that went into this project and we could have kept adding to it but we needed a stopping point to make sure the original content was finished.
